Frequently Asked
Questions

Do
we have to jump out of the helicopter?
No,
the helicopter sets down in designated landing zones (LZ’s) to insure our
guests the safest
departure from the aircraft.
Where are you located?
Diamond Peaks Heli-Ski Adventures is located
in the beautiful Ogden Valley. We base our operations out of Powder Mountain
Ski Resort, and ski in the famous Northern Wasatch Mountains.

I
am an intermediate powder skier, is there anywhere I can heli-ski?
Yes,
we
have a variety of skiing terrain for intermediate powder skiers and boarders, from spacious open bowls and ridge tops to low
angle tree skiing. We have over 15,000 acres of private skiing with a
variety of terrain for intermediates to expert skiers.
Should I tip my guide?
Yes, our guides are mostly volunteer
ski patrollers/guides. They are all very experienced in
backcountry travel, rescue, outdoor emergency care, and avalanche work.
They do
everything they can to make your day, your best ski day of your
life. They are there because they enjoy the work, but they have expenses
just like you. You should give at least 10% of what you spend for
your day heli-skiing to your guide as a tip.
If a storm moves in are we stuck in the lodge until
the weather clears up?
When you come to ski with us you are not grounded, when the weather moves
in. Our base is located in the Ogden Valley Recreation Area, your
opportunity of fun & adventure is LIMITLESS no matter what the weather!
We fly out of Powder Mountain Resort & can also fly out of Snowbasin
Ski Area (the site of the 2002 Olympic Downhill).
We are also within 1 1/2 hour drive from Park City, Deer Valley,
Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, Brighton, and The Canyons Resorts.
You can be in Ogden in 30 minutes and Salt Lake City in 50 minutes and to
Park City in an hour. Restaurants,
shopping, theatres, clubs, music, and brewery’s are just minutes away.
What
kind of helicopters do you use?
Diamond
Peaks uses the Bell Long Ranger, L-3’s
and L-4’s because of their safe high mountain performance abilities.
How
many people can the helicopter carry?
The
L-4 helicopters can safely carry 6 people, but we fly with 5; 1-pilot, 1-guide,
& 3-guests. Because of the altitude and the additional weight with the equipment (skis,
boards, packs), a seat is left unclaimed to compensate for that weight.
Is there any danger of avalanches?
All winter recreationalists should be aware
of the dangers of an avalanche. Diamond Peaks Powder Guides are all
professionally certified and equipped to forecast, control, and navigate
safely in all high profile avalanche areas. It is the guests responsibility
to follow the guides directions and not wonder off into dangerous & uncontrolled
areas.
Do I need powder (fat or wide)
skis, and if so do you rent them?
It is our experience that most guests do very
well with fat skis in powder conditions; however, some guests prefer to use
their traditional equipment. Diamond
Peaks can set you up with Head powder skis, but you must request the skis in
advance (we have a limited supply, use is on a first request basis).
Can I bring a camera with me?
We encourage all of our guests to bring
cameras. Several of our Powder Guides are great amateur photographers and
would love to capture you on film.
Helicopter skiing is an adventure you will want to share with your
family and friends at home.
What items should I wear or bring
with me?
Diamond Peaks advises our guests to be
prepared for various weather and or snow conditions. Layered clothing is easy
to add on or take off accordingly. Sun protection for the safety of your eyes
and skin are recommended. Hat and gloves, and an avalanche beacon (if you
don’t have a beacon, one will be provided for you). Please bring a smile, or
one will be provided for you.
Do you take snowboarders or
telemark skiers?
We at Diamond Peaks do not discriminate
against our fellow snow enthusiasts. There is room for all to play, and all of
this room to play in!
We are fortunate to have professional guides that are superb alpine skiers,
telemark skiers and snowboarders.
